Orkney lobster hatchery produces in excess of 100,000 European lobsters per annum these are all released back into the ocean to help sustain the lobster fishing around Orkney some lobsters from the hatchery have been release at other sites around the British isles. The innovative technology the hatchery has produced makes it the most successful of it kind in Europe and in the near future the hatchery could be capable of producing over a million juvenile lobsters per annum.

Dawson Shearer from the hatchery commented "We have found the Calanus® to be the best source of feed to date; the composition of the feed is head and shoulders above other similar feeds. We have found the powder to be perfect for feeding in the upweller units as it disperses throughout the water column giving all the lobsters equal amounts of feed, the frozen is ideal for feeding on the larva conicals and floating discs as the product is the perfect size for feeding the individual juvenile lobsters.
